Introduction to Payments

This online workshop is a 2-hour short course that focuses on Payments and why they are increasing importance for stockbroking and investment advice firms. 

Learning outcomes

The workshop covers the operations process. Attendees will walk away with a solid understanding of the following:

  • The payments landscape and how it relates to SIAA
  • The main payment methods in Australia (e.g. BPay, NPP, DE)
  • The flow of payments in the business
  • CHESS Payments – how does that work?
  • Shares in your digital wallet
  • A look forward to AI payments for SIAA – what might that look like?

Participants will also learn about who regulates the industry and what they do, and the obligations of participants.

Who should attend the workshop

Because payments touches every area of the business, this is a course meant for those who are new to payments in financial services.

Presenter

John Ryan, Chief Education Officer, PayEd

John Ryan has spent 17 years of his career working for Broadridge, most of the time in Australia helping stockbrokers, banks and wealth firms to solve challenges and remove friction with technology.  In 2018 John co-founded The Emerging Payments Association Asia, where he worked with the leading global payment firms. In 2021 he founded PayEd.

PayEd is an Australian based company that is focused on training in all areas related to Payments Education. They train the worlds’ largest payment firms and banks. In addition they advocate and educate around the need for greater payments governance across every organisation.
